The AASC is a national program that is part of the Australian Government’s $116m Building a Healthy, Active Australia package. It provides primary school-aged children with access to free, structured physical activity programs in the after-school time slot of 3.00pm to 5.30pm. This program received a funding boost in the 2007 Budget and will now be running until 2010. The program is designed to engage traditionally non-active children in structured physical activities and to build pathways with local community organisations, including sporting clubs. Free community Coach Training Courses are run throughout the year to teach the Game Sense philosophy to deliverers and other interested persons. There are currently 21 schools and outside school hours care services involved in the Bundaberg region which extends up to Agnes Water and out to Mt Perry.

The Life Education Committee with their fully trained Educator operates as a Health and Drug Education Resource Program visiting Primary Schools in the Bundaberg and surrounding district operating at each class level. The Pyjama Foundation was founded in 2004 to support foster cares and provide extra help for our community's most vulnerable children. Our goal is to alleviate some of the pressue on foster carers in a practical way, focussing specifically on improving the children's literacy skills. The Pyjama Foundation recruits, screen, trains and supports volunteers from the community - our Pyjama Angels. Pyjama Angels are matched with a child in care and visit them once a week for an hour to help them with their literacy

DESCRIPTION The Wide Bay Institute offers over 200 courses in areas such as Business, Office, Management, Information Technology, Engineering, Construction, Automotive, Furnishing, Electrical, Retail, Aged Care, Nursing, Child Care, Rural, Indigenous Studies, Horticulture, Marine and Security Training. Courses are practical and job oriented and cater for people of all ages. The Institute also provides students with a range of services to assist them while studying including a Counsellor, Disability Services Officer, Coordinator, Indigenous programs and Learning Support Tutors.
